Where to Sell Your Books – A Current List of Promo Sites

AAAAAMy books don’t sell consistently. They spike upwards and then spiral down for a bit and then spike up again. Sometimes they move up because of a promotion that I’m running and sometimes the numbers increase on their own. Two years ago after being in the right place at the right time and having hit some crazy sales numbers with my first novel the downloads began to plateau. My book found its place and wasn’t doing very much. A fellow writer who was watching his books go through the same cycle remarked that there must be something we were missing. He pointed out other self-published books that were selling well and some of them never seemed to take a dip in the rankings. He was convinced there was a secret website somewhere that “they” had access to and we didn’t. He was sure there was a club that we hadn’t been invited to. We didn’t know the secret handshake or whatever was required to be granted access and we couldn’t get in. He never did find out what the secret site was and that’s because there isn’t one.

As I’ve talked about many times there is no secret sauce or formula for selling lots of books and connecting with readers. There is instead a process of producing a book that can stand spine to virtual spine with any other book on the market. This of course is assuming that you’ve written a book that readers do indeed want to read. So, if there is no secret sauce and we want to reach readers what do we do. Well, we go where the readers are looking for books. In my guidebook I list all the sites that I’m aware of and I update the guidebook from time to time and I make sure Amazon alerts previous buyers so they can take advantage of any new sites that pop up. Plus I post the same list on the Indies Unlimited site. And, if I speak at a writers group or give a workshop I direct authors to these same lists.

I had a great idea the other day. I contacted the very talented lady who does all my techy-type things and asked if she could put a tab on my website and post the list there too. And, I told her I wanted to update it as new sites come in so that it stays current. I thought that would be a great idea. So, we did it.

The above link will take you to the tab on my website where a whole bunch of promo sites are listed. If you know of others that have worked for you, let me know and I’ll add them too. And, as I stumble across more opportunities I’ll attempt to keep the list fresh. And, if you want more details on how I manage to sell books every day you might want to take a peek at my self-publishing_guidebook. E-book copies are only $4.99 or you can order the print version from Amazon and they’ll include the e-book for free. Or, why not visit us in New Westminster, British Columbia on March 22/23 for our self-publishing workshop. Let me know if you need more details on that.2014 pre-sale flyer with pricing2 letter-page-0 JPG

Good luck with your promotions and I hope my list helps!
